How do you establish a maintainable fitness routine?
Find a time in your diary and book it out.
Consistency is key. For me, its first thing in the morning before the family routines take over. It means getting up an hour earlier but once I’m up I don’t look back. We are all different so take a look at your schedule and see where you can best fit in a class. I would always encourage you to come into a class regularly to benefit from feedback but Online home classes are also a good alternative if your time tight.
Secondly, vary your work outs.
A Pilates practice will bring good disciplines to every movement you make but you need cardio and resistance elements in your practices to keep it interesting and to see the all-important motivating physical changes. We offer Reformer, Barre, HIIT and Sculpting hand-weight classes alongside our Pure Pilates Classes.
It’s important to be realistic
A social weekend or the sun coming out can easily send all my good intensions sideways. The important thing is to regroup. Every day is a new day to start over. If I’ve had a particularly busy and fun weekend/ week/ holiday, I get to Monday and I start over, I don’t linger on what I have consumed or how little I have moved, instead I look forward and think about what’s happening today. The body is very forgiving and within 48 hours you can be right back on track. The more space you make for taking care of your body in your daily routine the easier it is to get back on track quickly.
Set small weekly goals
I’m going to practice 5 times a week is brilliant, but if you fail you are more likely to give up all together. I’m going book a weekly class and stretch 5 mins before bed every weekday night maybe much more manageable.
If you are reading this you are most likely to be keen to start a regular practice. It’s much easier than you think. Find your time, match it to a class and enjoy. We all miss a day, week but just don’t stop all together, your body will return quicker and stronger each-time.
